Visited Growel branch, Kandivali on a tuesday. Went with high expectations considering the fame this chain of restaurants has for its authentic Indian offering. The best part was ambience. Well organized, spick and span. Perfectly dimmed lights. Tables well spaced from each others. Chicken soup(murg shorba) was delicious. Paneer tikka pieces were sumptous looking and soft, and tasted good too. Mushroom tandoor was an utter disappointment. Those were probably big enough only for a salad or soup, but not for a standalone tandoor dish. Those mushrooms tasted as if made by an intern who wanted to be a commentator but was coerced by father to become a cook. Chicken banjara was good. But not tender enough for the price. Nail in the coffin: ".. just because we have stuck a board of 10% service charge at the entrance, you have to pay. This tax is applicable in all our branches". I mostly would have tipped the same amount, but forcing a customer [because of that board outside] is extortionary. It is illegal to apply service charge without customer consent but not sure what the law is for this 'board at entrance' tactic. Overall experience : Came for a full course meal but left halfway and instead went to a fine dine restaurant at Thakur complex. It was a good decision in taste, price and service.
