Just before Independence Day, me and my entire team thought of going out for a classic Indian Meal. And we wanted to explore something new. What better than Neel Indian Kitchen at Nariman Point inside the CR2 Mall. We were aware they were doing a special Khichdi Menu, but did not expect 9 options honestly! We together, picked our personal favourites and shortlisted the below 4 :- Bisi Bele Bhaath Bajre Ki Khichdi Kolambichi Khichdi Karnataka Mutton Khichdi 2 Veg and 2 Non Veg Options were the perfect mix for lunch. Starting off Bajre ki Khichdi- it's your simple pearl millets & green peas served with fried papad and curd. Honestly, nothing fancy about this one. Too basic, just the right thing if you are looking for something healthy! Next Up was Bisi Bele Bhaath - This one deserves a special mention for sure. In veg, if you are looking for burst of flavours, this must be your pick for sure! They use belgaum basmati rice cooked with pumpkin, carrot, drum stick, aubergine. And served along with potato poppadum, ghee, ginger chutney, pickle & buttermilk. So much just in one platter. Don't miss out on this one! Next what came on the table was Kolambichi Khichdi- Thinking what's that? Your favourite shrimps (seafood lovers watchout) marinated in their secret homemade Masala (lipsmacking) along with kokam juice & jeera kolam rice. There were 5 shrimp pieces on top and a few mixed inside along with sol Kadhi, rice papad, crispy fried shrimps. Excellent this dish was, only complaint here the crust fried shrimps could have been more. Rest all is on point. Last but not the least, The star dish - Mutton Khichdi : Goat meat, Indian spices & brown rice. The perfect combo paired with fresh mint leaves, green chilli, fried onion, pickle & finger millet papad. Like WOW! This combination was unique and full of different flavours one would expect in a meal! Must try! Suggestion to management - How 2 Khichdi's were paired with beverages, others should also have been paired on the menu. Make a perfect combo/ meal for 1. As that is what somebody would expect while eating the Khichdi with other accompaniments. All in all the khichdis fared well. Give it a shot!

It doesn’t live up to the legacy if the Neel at Mahalaxmi.. Our starters were reheated. That means the inside of the paneer or the brocoli was cold. The Lasooni saag didn’t have salt in it.. ( despite being informed the waitstaff was in denial) The tarke dal and black dal was decent And we had asked for Methi paneer makhani, we avoiding a sweet makhani jain dish.. what we got was, is what we specifically asked not :. The methi was like garnish just like Dhaniya.. If u call me impolite, I paid for 336 rs of service charge despite walking out hungry.. that’s my version of polite.. not asking the service charge to be removed. Not coming back here or recommending this to anyone.. I’m going to go to Mahalaxmi..

Went there for lunch, had the veg thali, a disappointing performance - the puneri aloo was raw in the middle, rice was undercooked, both the mushroom baby corn & paneer subzis were greasy and spicy, the Daal was blaah and the rosogolla was pedestrian. Only saving grace was the moong dal halwa. I don't see any reason to order a thali here when there are better ones available at the same price point in the locality.
