Punjabee Rasoi Reviews and Ratings - Tiljala, Kolkata

Insane!

Rated 5.0 by Protik Basu

Ordered Mutton Adrak ke Punje, murgh lasuni kebab... haven't had such tender kebabs for a long time. Awesome kebab is the statement. Then we had butter nan and chkn tikka butter masala. Found it at par with some of the best restaurants of Kolkata. But it was the kebabs that made the difference and hence the rating.

The best thing I like about the Punjabis is that they are never miserly with whatever they offer - especially food. But I am not here to write about their quantity, its the quality, and more importantly the variety of items they have on offer. You don't come in here to order a couple of kulchas and butter chicken, NO! You MUST order the "Mutton Adrak ke Punje", and of course get blown away. And yes, not to forget the "Kabuli Naan" - you will never look at another tandoori bread again.

We tried lasuni kabab, mutton kabab (signature dish) and both of them was good enough. Then we tried kabuli naan and dal makhani in main course and Frankly we didn't like it at all. Kabuli nan is full of peanuts and sugar which is not our style. Dal makhani was just eatable, less of salt. Actually the taste doesn't suits us or we tried wrong dishes! May be some other dishes are better. Can't say! disappointed! :(

Love this restaurant. Love how the staff makes us feel at home and the food is delicious. Every year we vote for it to win the best North Indian restaurant and are old customers. Despite tipping well, we never ask for favours and wait like everyone else. At this exact moment , we are in the restaurant. As soon as we entered, the always smiley staff made the two of us sit in a table set up for 6. No one asked us to wait and we even said that why give us the big table and he said it’s no problem. Had the owner asked us that do you mind sharing the table with another couple we would not have objected. But while we were eating our starters, the owner instructed his staff to accommodate another couple without asking for our permission or knowledge . While eating , our table was dragged out to fit them in and reset. I am prepared to be made to wait next time because I’ve written this and people don’t take criticism well. I always ignored the fact that whenever my dad would call to book in advance the owner (Raju) would pretend to not know him. How does one only recognise his frequent customers by face and not mobile number and name is beyond comprehension. And the staff recognises us and treats us well . such is the difference. Food is as amazing as ever.
