Good Enough

Rated 3.5 by Hungry Belly At Work

After hearing a lot about their buffet, we landed up here for some lip smacking non vegetarian food. As we were here on a Sunday afternoon and had already missed the timings for buffet, we ended up ordering in ala carte. We ordered Peshawari Murgh Tikka in starters and Murgh Lababdaar in main course. Along with garlic naan and tandoori rotis. The starter was really heavy and tasted almost perfect. It could be a little more juicy although. The mint chutney was delicious and complimented both the dishes. I personally loved the main course. The gravy was a perfect combination of cream and spices. Although, the quantity was a bit disappointing according to the prices.

Well...

WHERE IS IT !? Viva Cafe is located at Grand Chanakya Hotel, Jaipur. WHAT DOES IT SERVE !? Viva is a 24/7 Cafe of a three star hotel, it's menu covers indian, oriental and continental cuisine. They also offer buffet dinner on weekends. WHAT I LIKED AND DISLIKED !? SOUP - SWEET CORN Soothing vegetable broth soup with sweet corn kernels and spring onions, really nice ! CREAM OF TOMATO Thick tomato soup, well seasoned with black pepper and crunch of croutons. APPETIZERS - PANEER TIKKA PLATTER Three varity of tikkas were served in a platter, it included malai, angara and haryali. I found the malai tikka really bland, the subtle flavour of cheese and cardamom were missing. CHUPA RUSTAM KEBAB It's basically a hara bhara kebab stuffed with cheese, it was nice but i wish if salty amul cheese was used, it would have been better. MAINS - PANEER TIKKA MASALA Paneer tikka simmered in a creamy tomato curry. Nice smokey falvour with richness of cream and butter. KADAI PANEER Cottege cheese tossed in a kadai masala, it had a overdose of dried red chillies and coriander....that made the dish bitter ! VEGETABLE AU GRATIN Chopped vegetables mixed with bechamel sauce, topped with cheese, finished in the oven. Served with toasted french bread. Well made, addition of pineapple gave a variation in flavour. THREE TREASURE VEGETABLE The description said that veggies will be tossed in a ginger soya sauce but sadly they was tossed in a watery sauce that just had white pepper and garlic. A complete blunder ! FRIED RICE Stir fried rice with finely chopped veggies, well made ! CHILLI GARLIC NAAN Crispy and garlicy !! DESSERTS - BULLS EYE Chocolate brownie served with vanilla ice cream. The brownie was soft and fresh, so it tasted good. RAS MALAI The rasgulla in the ras malai wasn't drenched well, it was totally bland...the ras malai needed a heavy dose of sugar ! GULAB JAMUN A combination of two gulab jamuns, one had a filling of pistas and the other was flavoured with kesar, tasted delicious ! KESAR KULFI Malai kulfi flavoured with saffron and dry fruits, decent ! WHAT'S MY TAKE !? Cafe Viva needs a lot of improvement in the food they serve, it has the potential but is inconsistent in it's delivery ! Service was helpful :)

Avoid!

After seing quite good reviews and a good 4 course offer on nearby, i went here with my family and it was a horrible experience with food. Waiter or whoever so asked us if we want a 4 course or a buffet (although i could not understand his accent and understood that he is telling that the option available is buffet only ! This could be my bad.) We choose for a buffet and there i made a mistake ! Limited items and that too horrible. Let me share the details-: 1) Soups- Average. 5/10 2) Starters or snacks: paneer dish was there and it was bit fine. Chilly chicken was ok as well. 6/10. 3) Continental- Noodles were good 9/10. Baked vegetables was horrible 1/10. One more was there i donr remeber the name and neither tasted it. 4) Main course- Lamb was horrible 2/10. Chicken was over cooked but was atleast acceptable 6/10. My mon told paneer was bit good, i didnt ate so cannot rate. Bhindi too was there in main course :-D no marks as no one wants to see bhindi/okra/lady finger in a lavish buffet 0/10. Rice (2 types of rice were there) and daal this was the only thing that everyone ate at last as this was perfect 9/10. Irritating or funny dont know. 5) Now comes the star of the show which were sweets and was the most horrible experience of lyf :-D Malpua was there and it had foul taste of oil 5/10. Second was a egg cake which was like eating a sweet cold omlett, one can imagine how horrible it could be. One of the person just puked with that taste. 0/10. This was the entire menu of the buffet (excluding salads as they are just ignorable) which was approx Rs 650 / person (i dont remeber the exact cost). Wasted my money. I am not sure on how al-a-carte is here but i personally guess that might be better than the buffet. Service was not that good too as it should be, Although staff was polite. Overall worst experience and nothing like GRAND was there. Strictly ignore buffet if you dont want to burn your pocket and mind. I might not visit it again !!

We went to this place on a Saturday (29/10/2016) for lunch. It is located on MI road and there is valet parking available. The reception of the hotel was good , ambience wise I give the hotel 4/5. As we headed to the café Viva we were welcomed by a beautiful fountain. The café was nicely done though it didn't have a 'Café' feel to it, it was like a restaurant. Our group were the only people seated in the café. Coming to the service it was Very very poor! The staff was not trained at all. We were seated for almost half an hour then we summoned for the server to come to us for the drinks and starters. It took them another half an hour to get the drinks even though we had ordered breezer, beer, virgin mojito and cranberry juice. I can understand that virgin mojito can take a while to get prepared but the other drinks were all packed one still we waited a lot for them. The starters included paneer tikka, murg tikka and fish tikka. The murg tikka was succulent and juicy and the fish tikka was just average. The paneer tikka was Also average. I would rate the starters 3/5. Coming to the main course we ordered Lal Maas, Butter chicken, paneer lababdar ,dal tadka, garlic nan and plain nan. The butter chicken was not good at all , it was very sweet for my taste coming to the Lal Maas it was very tasty and with succulent pieces of mutton and very tasty gravy. The dal and paneer were again just like any normal and nothing extraordinary. The nan were well prepared and service was fast for nan. But presentation wise the the restaurant lacks a lot, there was simply no presentation in all the food items served. Rating 3.5/5 The place is quite pricy on the pocket for the level of services and food. I had high expectations from this place but it didn't live up to it, it was like any other local restaurant in terms of staff and food.
