Magesh Chettinadu Reviews and Ratings - Villivakkam, Chennai

Great!

Rated 4.0 by Shabnam

Edit: Apparently, Ayanvaram outlet too has an AC section. My bad, there was a miscommunication from my end with my friend. He suggested for comfort sake as the ambience is better in Villivakkam. This place is quiet known among people from this locality. Their branch in Ayanavaram was our main target, but because of the scorching Kathiri Veyil choose the Villivakkam outlet instead, as this one has AC section. Ayanavaram isn't Air Conditioned, I was told. We were 4 Adults, and one of the lunch companions who is a regular at Ayanavaram Magesh Hotel, said the taste in both their branches is the same. They have Indo-Chinese and other items in their Menu, but I was looking to explore only the South Indian Non-Vegetarian food of theirs, which is their speciality. I wasn't disappointed on any count. After we got seated, a Chicken Soup was served on the house. The soup was appetizing with its mild spicy broth that soothes the throat. There were chicken pieces in it, too. Non-Vegetarian Meals (₹100) comes with the works - Mutton (Kozhuppu Kuzhambu)/Chicken/Fish/Rasam/Keerai/Poriyal and More. It's unlimited and extremely tasty. Every gravy had unique flavours and a typical native taste. A secret tip is to ask from Crab gravy or Naatu Kozhi gravy which they might not serve with the meal but appeared on the table when one specifically asked for it. Only the regulars know about it, I think. Curd (₹20) is charged extra. Mutton Biryani (₹175) was extremely well made with a decent amount of soft Mutton Pieces. Long grained, less irritants, flavourful rice which went very well with it's accompaniment of Brinjal Chops and Mutton Gravy. Raita was served, too. Viral Fry (₹190) was a perfectly deep fried fish with spot-on taste. Crunchy outer with soft centre. My favourite among the sides was Prawn Egg Fry (₹180). It was well made. The Plumpy prawns tossed along with egg tasted very good. Mutton Sukka (₹160) was a sure winner with it's soft texture Mutton and spicy masala. Egg Podimas (₹60) was well made. Total bill was ₹1349 including one more curd, 2 more meals and 3 Fresh Lime Soda (₹60/Juice).

I grew up eating at this amazing restaurant. The relationship I’ve had with the food at this restaurant goes way back. The taste, quality and preparation is spot on. Their non veg meal is my favourite. I usually order a chicken 65 with it but pretty much all of their side dishes go really well with the meals. Happy that they’ve expanded the place. Every visit to this restaurant is an unique experience.

Pretty decent place with good food and wide variety. They do have a Family Ac section too. Its very close to the AGS villivakam. We had, Veg noodles, Parotta with Chicken Chettinadu and egg dosa. Taste was great, specially their parotta items are awesome. Food:3.5 Ambience -> 3.5 Location -> 3.5 (Limited parking)
