Quick halt for a plate of idly at Chandra Bhavan located right opposite of Nandhini sweets in Kodambakkam . Two idly with coconut chutney , pudhina chutny , Podi with oil and sambhar was heavenly . Would love to visit here again . About the ambience , it's a age old place with average appearance . Ambience -3/5 Service - 3/5 Food - 4/5

Good Enough

One of those regular places during childhood that has kind of dropped in quality of food over time. To capture one of the estates that this hotel has is impossible these days. Here I am reviewing one of those oldest places I remember and something I visited yesterday. Back when we used to frequent this place, there was much lesser traffic in the locality. Parking was arduous those days but I should say I got to park the car on the road. Walking in brought back pretty good memories and the place probably smells of vada and sambar that's signature to any restaurant from the 90s. They had some classics like the karaikudi Kara dosa which was basically garlic chilly chutney on the inside of a regular dosa, and is aust try and lip smacking. Their chinna vengayam oothapam is over rated as always. It does not deserve the extra 20 bucks off the other variants. Restaurants of this time are known for their chilly parotta which was a killer those days, or perhaps the only "junk" in the whole menu. Well that's a time when fried rice was a luxury at such hotels, yet sadly, they are nothing like what they used to be. I did like the crisp parotta pieces which was kind of overdone with the gravy. Not worth the brag at all so I take it back. Serving simple menu for over decades this place has quite become the landmark of liberty signal. Service at such restaurants is always old school and the waiters are more than just courteous. Food is always made fresh and hot and that's assured and one of those places where I could vouch you'd get a good filter coffee. I would prefer this place to have mastered the chilly parotta a little bit and everything else is spot on. Cost for 5 is 300 (including a very big tip) so that's what I call VFM or cheap places idk. Food 3.5/5 Service - 4/5 Parking - 3/5 Cost - 4/5

It WAS good in the early 70s. Been there many times with my uncle who lived in the vicinity. Now, the management has changed, so do othe things - taste, service, and ambience. It's now ideal for men on the go ..for a quick bite, who don't really bother about taste or ambience.
