Abhinandan Reviews and Ratings - Egmore, Chennai

Avoid!

Rated 1.0 by Shyam Kumar

Pretty average. I would compare this experience with visiting vasantha Bhavan known for below average taste. Ordered bonda, ghee roast Mysore masala onion rava. Mangalore bonda, Podi does for the family. All were too average. Service was good and quick. But the quality of food and accompaniments were bad. No taste in the food

While my friend and I were looking for a place to have lunch in and around Egmore, my friend suggested Abhinandan restaurant in Hotel Ashoka, one of the very old places, still charming in its own way! We walked into a huge property, neat and spacious. Instantly it got my friend nostalgic. He had memories of staying in this property along with his family as a kid during his Chennai visits.

As you Enter the hotel, you can witness a lovely pond with fishes that jump and swims here and there giving you an exotic and a warm welcome. After that I reached Abhinandan hall and ordered a mushroom soup, which the server suggested regular one is OK for a starter. The mushroom soup was little creamy and had a lovely taste with the small minced mushrooms in it. Enjoyed it completely and I highly recommend this hotel for the people who loves to chill out in hot day.

Favourite place for authentic Idly Dosa and other South Indian dishes. The sambar is one of the best I ve ever had. The Dosa comes with the traditional butter wrapped in a leaf inside the dosa.

Went to Abhinandan with family. Note, this is not our first visit, but one of many. This place has the appeal of old Madras and I am sure most if not all of Chennaite's must have visited this place.  Outside, you will find a large area with adequate parking considering this also has lodging and two other restaurants. There is a man-made pond in the center with catfish swimming in the moss-strewn water. Around you, there are various structures, trees and plants.  The inside ambience is plain with no fancy frills. Its all tables and chairs and quick orders. We ordered their special South Indian meal. The staff wanted us to try their special of the day, i.e., Paneer Tikka and I obliged.  Service started with the arrival of Paneer Tikka and Bombay halwa. The Paneer Tikka was chunky and tasted okay but was a bit hard. Would have preferred softer and a bit more tandoor masala. The meals arrived in large round steel pans with various mini steel bowls holding a variety of Sambar, Rasam, Curd, Vegetables, Dal etc.,  The waiter was good and he offered us plenty of ghee on our rice. We of course were careful though we like ghee with rice and sambar.  Appalam's were good.  All in all, a good experience to have a vegetarian thali in quick time and leave contented.
