My Space - WelcomeHotel Bengaluru Reviews and Ratings - Central Bangalore, Bengaluru

Rated 5.0 by Purnis Food Blog

The food culture in Bangalore has only grown over the years. Bengaluru, however, does not seem to have too many places that serve authentic North Karnataka cuisine.  Purnis Food Blog - My Post-18 But that gap is being bridged, with Welcome Hotel by ITC bringing to us a luxury fine-dine restaurant and its "North Karnataka food festival," where one gets to taste the hitherto unexplored dishes from the northern parts of the state.  Location:  Welcome Hotel by ITC is located on Residency Road.  Ambience:  Beautiful, simple yet classy interiors with only indoor seating. Well-lit sealing area. Comfortable seats. And an apt decor for the festival.  The food: We were served a regular buffet along with few hand-picked dishes from North Karnataka. Some of the highlights and some that I totally enjoyed  Coconut and pineapple cooler:  First of all, I thought this was an orange-based drink because of the colour. But as I sipped the welcome drink, I realise it was a coconut and pineapple mixture, and boy was it refreshing! Purnis Food Blog - _MG_3359 Bevu Bella:  Bevu Bella reminds me of Ugadi because it is customary to have Bevu Bella on the occasion. I would, as a child, always eat the bella (jaggery) and run away. Little did I know that I would become a big fan of this refreshing drink which combined bevu and bella.  Purnis Food Blog - _MG_3410 Dil Vada:  A delicious deep-fried vada with fresh dill, this had great aroma of the dill leaf as we savoured every bite.  Jhunka Vadi:  Jhunka is a famous side dish from North Karnataka. It’s core ingredient is gram flour. It tasted really good.  Badanekai Yennegayi Palya:  This dish took me down the memory lane. A perfect well-stuffed aubergine (otherwise known as brinjal or eggplant) cooked to perfection. It was great to combine with jolada rotti. Not to forget: Add some groundnut powder and it’s the perfect combination. I just loved it! And meanwhile I missed the count on the number of rotis I had as part of this combination.  Bendakayi Masuru Gojju:  Also known as majjige huli, this is a very simple yet very comforting dish. It tasted great! The name says it all: The core ingredients are ladyfingers and curd.  Karwar Fish Curry:  You all know how much I love seafood. This was just yummy! a perfect combo with white rice. Bhatkal Chicken Biryani:  This tasted good. very mildly spiced and topped with some cashew. Chef shri Bala says that bhatkal region is famous for the chicken biryani than the mutton biryani, how ever pure vegetarians also have option for veg biryani..  Girmit / Mandakki:  The restaurant had a make-your-own girmit counter where one could add ingredients of their choice and make a plate for themselves. There is live Jolada Rotti Counter as well  How can I not end my meal without a dessert? The Dessert section was huge and had a good spread..  Khus Khus Payasam:  This was one of the most favourite desserts I tried that day. Fully satisfactory, because it tasted just that good.  The Other desserts on the menu had quite variety of desserts.. These were several special North Karnataka dishes at the buffet and the regular menu besides those I have mentioned here. Please note since this a festival pop-up, the dishes I mentioned are subject to availability because the chef's try their best to incorporate the various special dishes.

Had dinner there last night. The starters were really awesome. Both the pepper chicken and also the veg (don't remember the exact name of the veg starter) was high quality, well done and yummy. The dinner we ordered phulkas, chicken curry, mix veg curry and plain rice. The dinner was not great. 😐 Quality of phulkas and chicken curry was not at all to expectation. Phulkas had portions which were brittle like pappad. Chicken curry pieces were hard and not so great in taste. However service was appreciable
